A familiar face in the free paper industry and a valued member of Free Community Papers of New York has been named the AFCP, Association of Free Community Papers Executive Director.
Loren Colburn, the long-time publisher of the Scotsman Press in Syracuse, was appointed by the AFCP board of directors at their recent board meeting following an exhaustive search that generated 150 applicants.

On Thursday, February 18, 2010, Tom Foti, USPS Marketing Manager, announced a potential 2010 summer sale for eligible Standard mailers of letters and flats.
The sale is subject to the official filing of a notice with the PRC and will require the PRC to approve it. If approved, the sale would start July 1 through September 30.

In September of last year I stepped into the leadership role of the FCPNY presidency with enthusiasm for our industry and the opportunity in our membership. Yes, we were in a recession and the newspaper industry was changing; but I counted the resilience and stick-to-itiveness of our publishers and concluded that time would yield the energy and effort necessary to the changes ahead. I was optimistic, but perhaps for the wrong reasons.
